Storyteller and art maker

Melbourne based

Hello I'm Katelin, but you can call me Katie.
I am a creative interested in imaginative storytelling and themes surrounding play.

You will often see me drawing, painting, sculpting/felting puppets in handmade sets and trying lots of crafts. I am a huge animation enthusiast, so I sometimes dabble in stop motion and hand drawn 2D sequences too!
When I'm not in my home studio tinkering away, you will often find me rambling daydreams and absurdities with my partner, reading curled up with my cats or dancing in my living room (well, you won't see me doing that, but it is a sure way I recharge creatively)

My work explores nostalgia and childlike wonder in a whimsical, and sometimes eerie, manner. I would describe it as playful as I am often found following ‘what if’ imagination tangents and exploring hidden worlds both imagined and through perspective shifts. Playing is such a transformative experience via reconnecting with the inner child, which my art practice both explores and acts as a vehicle for my own self.

The process of world building and following my curiosities to mix and match reality and absurdity to evoke emotion is a huge part of the way I create

I have a strong interest in illustration for children's books, graphic novels, visual development and any illustration work involving animals. Also, a dream of mine would be to work on the set or puppets of a stop motion film! Along with designing my own collectable vinyl art toy series.

The works I am most interested in creating is those which have an interactive application. Whether that be a storybook to physically hold and read, a toy to play with and everything in-between.
